A Shiverwing is a Northern Frost Dragon, referred to the cousin of the Smothering Smokebreath.
Description[]
Shiverwings are the northern cousin of the Smothering Smokebreath however this dragon breaths frost instead of fire. Shiverwings a small dragon with heavily muscular upper body and large wings. The most noticable feature is the cloud of frost that surrounds the dragon's body. Ice can form on the dragon's pale scales, acting as a natural armor for the dragon. Unlike their Southern cousins, Shiverwings have thicker scales that shield them from harm and the elements. Shiverwings are one of the few dragons that can breath frost and have no fire abilities at all.
Shiverwings are commently found in the most northern snowy regions, such as the tundra and ice sheets on Skaal island. Shiverwings live in large colonies in caves however can be found in smaller group of ten to a few induviduals during hunting trips. The Shiverwings will return the colony during the day light hours and emerge to go hunting during the coolness of night. Shiverwings breed during the spring and ley their eggs near the hot springs because they cannot breath fire to warm their eggs. During nesting season, the females will depart from the main colony to lay their eggs and rear their young in a separate almost all female colony. When the young reach three months of age, they are big enough to learn to fly and have produce enough fat to keep warm away from the hot springs. Once they learn to fly they will join their parents back at the main colony.
Shiverwings have proven to be quite difficult to train do to their instinct to return to the colony. Lone Shiverwings seem to not far well on their own and will return to the wild to be with other Shiverwings. Some Vikings have trained to train young Shiverwings, however riding on their cold frosty bodies may cause frostbite. Shiverwings are also nocternal and dislike the sun's warm rays and warmer climates.
It was discovered that Shiverwings will swarm and devour a Bewilderbeast. The entire colony will attack the Bewilderbeast and they seem to be the reason none of these dragons have ever been found on the island of Skaal.
